Singaporean short movies

This forum seem a little bit dead nowadays. I do have some sparse contact from time to time with some of members outside here tho :) As some of you might know, I do have an inclination towards Singapore. Anyway, I just wanted to share a few Singaporean short movies with some Hokkien I've seen lately...

Re: Hoklo in the Bisayas: comments on the archives

Why help build up a Mandarism? There are very few real hits for this word on Google. In a few days, people anybody who Googles it will find this thread.

(Cebu version)

She sent me a quick message: eh tsoi is usually used in asking questions. Most of the time is used to ask questions like for example "eh tsoi tsio din eh tian oi boh? - can i borrow you're phone?" then you would answer "tong dian mah eh tsoi - of course, you can". Anyway, I'll as...

Re: Hoklo in the Bisayas: comments on the archives

Thanks, amhoanna.

(Cebu version)

I see. For some reason, I thought "ē-sái" was the one that expressed permissibility, like if the mother tell their kids: "tī Tâi-oân boē-sái kóng chi̍t-kù Eng-bûn-oē", or if you ask permission to get in: "góa ē-sái li̍p-lâi bô?", but I guess I'm confused about how to us...

(Cebu version)

l-/d- and -o/-or are not phonemic differences... Why distinguish them in your spelling? Just a reminder so that I don't end up pronouncing it as l-. Like-wise, I shouldn't have marking vowels with -r either, or remove the nasalization, but still... *shrugs* Honghù smells like a Mandarism to me. I'm...

Somewhere in Tâi-lâm. I can't remember the name of the district. If only I had seen it written...
I'll ask again next time I see them. I've only met them once this year...

(Cebu version)

In another thread, I commented about "五語快易通", a wonderful material containing 200 sentences in 10 (despite the name!) languages: Hokkien (Taiwanese/Tâi-lâm, Quemoy) + Foochow (Matsu) + Hakka (Si-yen, Hoi-liuk, Thai-phu, Ngieu-phin, Tsau-on, Wu-hua) + Ami + Atayal + Bunun + Puyuma...

Re: How -NOT- write in Hokkien

I did notice that with -k of course, but I always heard the vowel before -h as a real o (the one without a dot in POJ)... Actually, when I mean "or", I mean the "o" as they pronounce it in Tâi-lâm... (not sure if it's everywhere in Tâi-lâm tho xD) I guess that's similar to /ə/? ...

Re: Hoklo in the Bisayas: comments on the archives

amhoanna, chin hoaⁿ-hí lí ū hoat-piáu chit-kōa ê thó-lūn, chin to-siā. After an one month and a half break from Hokkien classes because of finals and re-tests, I'm resuming classes with my teacher today. But oh well, I won't bring up my off-topic bullsh*t to this thread  What I mean is, U'l...
