What is the name of the Chinese alphabet that is used to sol

My math teacher posed a question wondering what is the name of the Chinese alphabet used today to solve math equations for algebra? The Americans use the Roman alphabet (a-z) to substitute numbers for letters to solve algebra equations. What do the Chinese use? Thank you,
