Re: 新用戶自我紹介

Just an FYI for chhoe (to find), Teochew scholars have adopted the character 覓, which is really not ideal, but I have grown accustomed to seeing it that way.

Re: Teochew in Southern Thailand - reports from the field

I just wanted to make a small correction that the part of Thailand that the OP visited is actually considered Eastern Thailand. Southern Thailand would be almong the Isthmus of Kra (Phuket), and all the way down to the Malaysian border.

Interesting experiences - thank you for sharing.

Re: Pan-Minnanism

Firstly, many apologies for being the OP and then basically abandoning this project. I am still down to do this. In the time that has passed since the last post, I have worked on a Teochew language app (You can find it on iTunes and Google Play as: WhatTCSay). Also, life. Google docs I think would b...

Re: Pan-Minnanism

Sorry for not replying earlier. I'm actually from the US and have just returned from a long trip in Asia. Interesting information about Mangnam in Nam'o. As for the Minnan conlag (constructed language)... first things first. What do we call the language? Also, I'm still working on the wiki so that w...

Re: Basic Minnan/Teochew Grammar

Oh and there is one more way in Teochew to ask yes/no questions. It only works with si, u, oi, and possibly a few other very common verbs. I didn't learn this until a few years ago so I'm actually a little un sure of the vowel in "kat" plus I'm not sure if it implies special meaning. kat s...

Re: Pan-Minnanism

I would totally be on board with "building up" a Teochew-Banlam (Hokkien) mixed language. It wouldn't even be that artificial. Teochew and Banlamese are bā-bābā as-is. The mixed form should be almost instantly intelligible both ways. In Teochew we say Mangnam. Actually I am in Singapore r...

Re: Pan-Minnanism

Well, my first question is do we have enough fluent speakers from the different varieties? And do we aim to have all of them equally included OR do we focus on the most populous forms - this could become dicey as certain groups will cry injustice BUT I do think that looking at Singaporean TC/Hokkien...

Pan-Minnanism

Don't think this topic has ever been brought up before, but I've always wondered why there hasn't been more pan-Minnan language collaborations as in developing a dictionary, creating a new writing system (I know that peh-oe-ji was used for TC as well as Hoklo, but not sure ab/ Hainanese). There seem...

Re: Basic Minnan/Teochew Grammar

In Teochew it seems that m and bo are interchangeable for all verbs except for si and u respectively. I agree with the poster that stated that there is a slight difference in meaning in some words (bo jiah - don't eat, m jiah - not willing to eat). As for boi (boe), it is used with adjectives and me...
