Hi Hong

以為 (Mdr: yi3wei2) I say 'na7 cun2'. I rarely have chances to speak Hokkien here with Singaporeans so I don't know how they say it.

What do you mean by 'liah' and 'liau cho'? Is it 'liau2 cho`1' 了粗 = loss a lot? And how does Mr. Chinfa Lien pronounce the character 搦?

It seems above online dict doesn't listed your na chun but only cun choe/cho.It is very strange even kio is yiwei. And also phe kio si.We can't be sure which one is chuanchiu ,chiang or xiamen unless we have read all dict from china..

I am sorry ,it seems above dict has 若准 na chun but the meanings are 假如,即使,如果 not yiwei. We can be sure 掠? liahkong is used by xiamen and chiangchiu only because chuanchiu don't use the word kong

A new minnan news reporter in malaysian radio use the word chit /pat tah for this/that place. It seems there are many words we can used for this tah 搭 in minnan even for wife and girlfriend=tah-sim-a,tah-thau.Tau-tah for partner, etc.

Hi Hong

Thanks for the info :)

I am not sure about the other meanings of 若准 'na7 cun2' but it's confirmed that we usually use it to mean 以為(yi3wei2). Yes, we also use 准做 'cun2 cue3' for the same meaning. 掠做 'lia8 cue3' is similar but I think it's more like 當做 (dang1zuo4 in Mdr) = 'tang3 cue3' (to assume, to regard sb/st as). I am not familiar with 料做 'liau3 cue3' and 掠講 'lia8 kong2'.

For "this/that place", we say tau2/tau1 (both are not exactly the same) instead of tah4. I'm not familiar with 'tah-sim-a' (搭心仔?) ,'tah-thau' (搭頭?) or 'tau tah' (?).

Yes,I heard she also used 兜 hit tau but are you saying another is 斗.I think liah cue is more like wrongly assume. We must wait for Prof.YangXiuFang 's speacial article on Na(ruo若)to confirm about your saying that it is yiwei.Have you found it mentioned in any dict or just your idea? That article will be be online soon, hopefully.Above tau1 have so many useful meaning that we can use it .Are you using it even for the meaning-home?
I am not sure above dict said soe -i-tau is second wife's house or 外家
I think this word u-tau-sau is a very useful word.tau-su is also useful to describe some people as dissocial.
Anyway the more we learn about min language ,we will know that it is a language too different from putonghua.Learning Cantonese,wu and hakka will be a simple task compare to min language.
Type the hanzi da搭 and select mandarin to get the meanings I mentioned above.

Hi Hong

若 'na7' itself means "if" but 若准 'na7-cun2' = 以為 in my dialect. It's used not only by me but by people in my hometown, so it's not my own idea :)

我若准逐其人是安爾講其 'gua2 na7-cun2 tak8-e5-lang5 si7-an1-ni1 kong2_e0' = 我以為每個人是這樣說的 I thought everybody also said it this way.

We use both tau1 (兜?) and tau2 (斗?), 'hit4-tau1' = 'hit-tau2'. But for house/home, only 'tau1' is used -> 'gun2-tau1' our house/home. But usually we say 'gun2-nai7' for our house/home, 'nai7' should be a variation of 'lai7' 內 (inside).

Dear Niu,
I am still not sure na cun is yiwei.I see it as na is if, cun is correct. So na cun means if this is correct/the case.
As for another meaning given in above dict na cun-jishi=even if ,even though,my idea can still stand with the zi -cun as the case did happen.I have to wait for reply from Prof Yang although most prof don't reply because we are not working in some universities.

Dear Niu,
I just read the new putonghua xiandaiguifanhanyucidian by 李行建 which mention aozhou as aodaliyandalu de tongchen .I am not completely sure what is the meaning. But dict give example as 水 银 is tongchen for gong3 汞.So I think China don't want a tongchen to appear in news report and school text book.
