I would like to learn more about Hokkien. I know I am pretty lazy and will get many sticks for this. But I wonder if you could make life easier for me and teach me something through this forum. In the future, others could refer to this thread to learn Hokkien as well.
Tone
====
First, I would like t learn the tone. I know there are 7 tones in Hokkien, and Penang Hokkien having 6 only. Could someone kindly tell me a common word for each tone?
Thanks

From the above article ciangchiu people called daughter as tsau-a are because of syllable contraction of tsa bo =tsau with a added at the end.
also mai (don't want) is m+ai

That's easy enough ...
(6) = 2nd tone
(7) u7 有 si7 是 m7 = 不
(8.) chiah8 食 - the most important of all
This should get you going. It's more fun to learn if one can ask questions ...

Aurelio

My only complain about above web site is there should some sound recording for rare vowel which only appeared in chiangchiu like those zhaoan,changthai and zhangpu.Without a recording or a trip over there ,we won't have any idea what is the actual sound .Taiwanese minnan don't have these vowels or the big E in all chiangchiu sects.
