Hi, I want to know can I learn Cantonese from watching VCDS

Hi,
I already know the basic Cantonese stuff but I was wondering on whether or not I can get more vocabulary out of watching a lot of Cantonese movies VCDS? The ones with the English subtitles and plus you can learn Mandarin too if you switch the language on the audio part on the DVD player. So, do you guys think I can get much out of watching a lot of the VCDS? Cause I want to know as much Cantonese as I can. Mostly to understand it, is what I'm concern about. Thx =)

Not necessarily, I think you lose alot of the dialogue's original meanings through translation, and having a friend explain to you what they said something for, would take the fun out of watching movies from Stephen Chau (or at least, the fun out of any other farse movie)
