I heard a Penang Hokkien friend pronounce 宿舍 as "sok sia". Is that correct? Also, the Yue pronunciation for 宿 is "suk", implying a -k ending common in the Southern dialects and Middle Chinese, that was eventually dropped in Modern Mandarin. If that is the case, 宿 for "chu" may not be likely. What do you think?

I don't think casey is right about tang period 厝 means house.In 上古 it means 石。In middle chinese it is a verb for put,arrange 通措。
It is just pure minnan invention if we want to take it as benzi.
