Be careful in Beijing language house is 房子﹐room is 屋子 in contrast to wu,cantonese,etc.
I heard a Penang Hokkien friend pronounce 宿舍 as "sok sia". Is that correct? Also, the Yue pronunciation for 宿 is "suk", implying a -k ending common in the Southern dialects and Middle Chinese, that was eventually dropped in Modern Mandarin. If that is the case, 宿 for "chu" may not be likely. What do you think?
