xiamen new tones

Post by hong »

I think it is important for people to know xiamen new tone for o 高 .It is er for young people now.oh become erh=保,io become ier=橋,ioh become ierh =
箬(leaf)
I have seen a misleading web site from taiwan with a recording for o as er sound. And it follows by example 高雄 ker1hiong。

I normally take care to ensure that unrelated topics get mixed together, but since Hong mentioned the word 高, I thought I had better ask before I forget:

What is the Hanzi for "kuan" (tall) and "kE" (short)? Some dictionaries I have seen write "kE" as 底, while others write it as 下. The only reason I am slightly more convinced that it is 下 is because 'wenyan' uses 下 for "short" (if I am remember correctly, the couplet 高下 appears in the 三字經).

懸 chuan= kuinn5 ,chiang=kuan5,xia=kuainn5(baidu) .old chinese adjective means 高掛的
矮baidu xiamen is ue2 .chuan is eri .chiang is e but ei for some southern sects.
下 is e7 for e pai,etc but chiang is E7.

I don't know where Prof.Chiu got above hanzi but the correct hanzi should be the one in kangxi dict 身+勞=郎到切=lo.
大漢 is tall in old chinese. And further added another meaning 引申為 adult in minnan .
song period--時姑蘇有民家姓唐﹐一兄一妹﹐其長皆丈有二尺,里人謂之唐大漢﹐
