I think it is important for people to know xiamen new tone for o 高 .It is er for young people now.oh become erh=保,io become ier=橋,ioh become ierh =
箬(leaf)
I have seen a misleading web site from taiwan with a recording for o as er sound. And it follows by example 高雄 ker1hiong。
xiamen new tones
I normally take care to ensure that unrelated topics get mixed together, but since Hong mentioned the word 高, I thought I had better ask before I forget:
What is the Hanzi for "kuan" (tall) and "kE" (short)? Some dictionaries I have seen write "kE" as 底, while others write it as 下. The only reason I am slightly more convinced that it is 下 is because 'wenyan' uses 下 for "short" (if I am remember correctly, the couplet 高下 appears in the 三字經).
