However,taiwanese always replace words with mandarin if they don't know the words.
So it is not helpful at all.
I just heard an old lady above says 幫忙( mang)must be bang ,no m consonant in minnan
News reporter says 困難--not nan but lan only.

While we are on this subject:

1. What is the Hanzi for 'tau' in 'tau kha chiu' (help)? I remember asking if it was 斗, and that Chow Yun Fat used it before in Yue, but cannot recall your response - sorry.

2. What is the Hanzi for 'khang' in 'khang kho' <> 苦 (difficult)?

kan1 is 艱。 hakka dict also put 鬥 not every sect use this word for help.。

Hi all,
I didn't receive any reply from Prof.Chiu but I receive a reply from another china's minnan people that no one is saying 大過你 in china。It is just cantonese grammar as I mentioned earlier..
We cannot say people in Niu's hometown don't have contact with cantonese for this bad influence to happen because we can see Singapore chinese have no contact with HongKong and don't speak cantonese but their TV drama are almost in Cantonese-like dialog with mandarin sound .

I just found that in Fuzhou they can say 我好過汝。閩中永安--你比我過懸。
Sadly Prof.Chiu doesn't reply for a perfect answer for minnan.

Singapore minnan are mainly Chuanchiu.However,it is your own choice about which sect to learn .
