Minnan/Taiwanese Readings

Post by Kobo-Daishi »

Dear Thomas,

In your CCDICT you have Minnan/Taiwanese readings but in the downloadable CCDICT they are not included.

Do you have a character list with Minnan/Taiwanese readings available for download?

What is your source for the readings?

Thank you.

Hi,

The Minnan/Taiwanese readings were kindly provided by the compiler of the online Taiwanese dictionary at http://daiwanway.dynip.com. He provided a Big5 list with readings to me without problem, so it should not be difficult to request that data.

Since I only asked consent to use the data in the online CCDICT I have not included them in the downloadable versions.

Regards,

Thomas

Dear Thomas,

The past week I've tried to access that site many times but haven't been able to. I don't know if they plan to be back on-line any time soon or if ever.

Do you still have their e-mail address?

Or if I e-mailed you, would you e-mail me a copy of the list?

Hi Thomas,

I'm interested in a copy of it. Your server seems to have rejected my email, even though we've had correspondence before...

Dear Dylan,

Why don't you give a copy of your character list of Sino-Vietnamese readings to Thomas so that he might add it to his on-line dictionary.

I tried to make a Minnan character list from sites found on the Internet but it's almost an impossible task. Too many romanization schemes and too much variation from one web site to the next even though most of the sites were based in Taiwan.

As those of you already know, the Unihan database at http://www.unicode.org is available for download in their public ftp site which can be accessed via their website. As KoboDaishi asked me a while ago for a listing of Vietnamese readings, I've extracted the readings from the unihan.txt document, and zipped them up for you to download from my website at

http://www.dylanwhs.ukgateway.net/misc/index.html

There are some readings which have characters which did not come out properly in the download, and I've not fixed it. There are over 8200 entries with some characters in Extension A and others found in Extension B, mostly having one reading, but some characters have two readings.

Cheers,
Dyl.
