> There is a book saying tai iat for 骄傲 is from cantonese 第一。
> The author is talking about directly taking the sound from cantonese.
> I just found a book called 金门话考释 give a benzi for tai iat = 大逸。
> 逸是得意洋洋自认为高人一等骄态
hong,
The author is talking about directly taking the sound from cantonese. This author may be wrong.
This author of "Kim-mng-oe khou-sek 金门话考释" give this logograms of "大逸" tai-iat is right.
I find that this hokkien word 大逸 is a military term of ancient city-states which means the manoeuvre or parade.
But in the present time, we can indicate a new meaning of "骄傲" or "得意洋洋自认为高人一等骄态".

> although Prof chiu said singaporean invented phinn1 偏 = cheap but I just found 东山县志 fangyan part saying it means 便宜。
hong,
"Prof chiu", are you mean the Prof Chiu tiong-chhip, the author of <E-mng Hong-gian Li-tian>.
phinn1 偏 = cheap (便宜), is the native word of old style E-mng and Lam-oaN vernacular.

I don't think prof.chiu(1938-) doesn't know xiamen old meaning of phinn,he is native xiamen. It seems like phinn = cheap is teochew origin
www.gaginang.org type cheap in dict there.
Dongshan is very close to teochew,so they borrow this word from them.

hong,
In the book of <E-mng Hong-gian Li-tian>, Prof Chiu tiong-chhip have not collect many native words of the old style E-mng speaking. Some words he give the wrong meaning. Many E-mng people are not native, they just migrated into E-mng after the 1950s, or 1980s.
The time of 1950s to 1970s, in the E-mng city the schools, public media and etc., change to the use of Mandarin speaking, and then the people of E-mng changed their langage usage, they borrowed the words of Mandarin and forget their native words. When the 1970s those Professors had the field investigation of E-mng speaking, they did not collect all native words. This book of <E-mng Hong-gian Li-tian> and a next book of <Phou-thong-oe Ban-lam hong-gian li-tian> were all wrote in that time.
There are many words, and "sentence pattern" of Teo-chew, that are similar as the words and "sentence pattern" of Lam-oaN. I gess that phinn = cheap is a word, origin of Lam-oaN and Teo-chew, or we can say this word that is an very old Hokkien word. I also had the chance to hear an very old person of Tang-oaN saying this word in many times.

Putonghua minnan dict was written in 1982 but xiamen dict was written in 1993 .That xiamen dict didn't include words from two kinds of tongan and longhai style nearby. Please spend time study first before saying any book is wrong.
Prof Li in his 1989 book 闽语研究 already said cuanciu/xiamen used 俗,ciangciu say pan gi.
The style closer to teochew is 诏安 follow by some southern ciangciu sects,it is certainly not cuanciu.
You said you heard tong an old man saying 偏,where is he staying now ?Which 6 small towns in tongan or tongan 腔 like 集美,杏林。

The E-mng and Lam-oaN also use "siok 俗" and "phiN" meaning "cheap". But the Choan-chiu use "siok 俗" only. The Chiang-chiu say "pan-gi" (便宜), may be the Mandarin word with Hokkien pronounciation. The word of "cheap" in Chiang-chiu vernacular, there may be existing a next native word, the word "pan-gi" is not like the Hokkien word.
There is a word of "phiN" (Mandarin: 欺負) bully; take advantage of somebody, which is the native word of E-mng, Lam-oaN and some counties of Choan-chiu. as "i choe lang chin tiong-hou, tiaN-tiaN leh hou lang phiN". (he is a person with honesty, always be took advantage by some people.)
i he
choe as
lang person
chin very
tiong-hou honesty
tiaN-tiaN always
leh function word

phiN bully; take advantage of somebody,
I guess that this word of "phiN" (Mandarin: 便宜 cheap) is a word with extension of meaning from the word of "phiN" (Mandarin: 欺負 bully; take advantage of somebody). as "hit-e hoan-a mih-kiaN boe kah chin phiN" (that hawker sold the goods very cheap). This sentence means that the hawker was took advantage by the buyers, so his goods was cheap.
hit-e that one
hoan-a hawker
mih-kiaN goods
boe sell
kah function word
phiN cheap
