Big "E"?

Hi

I have a short and simple question. When romanizing Hokkien, what's up with the big E's that I see on this forum?

I've seen it in the romanization for the standard Amoy/Xiamen Hokkien and it's written something like "E-mng"? How do I pronounce it or is it just like normal except upper case because it's a name?

E or ee is for some ciangciu sects but not all because dongshan,changtai and huaan are same like xiamen and quanzhou sects.

Hi Jilang,

As Hong says, E or ee are both used to transcribe the "open-e" (IPA ε). This is the sound of the "e" in English "set" or "bet", "let".

The answer to your question is yes, you are right--- the E in E-mng is capitalized because E-mng is a proper noun.
