pronounciation of "haai" and "hai"

hello!

I am just starting to learn Cantonese.
I would like to know what the difference in pronounciation is if the jyutpin has a double vowel or one. eg. haai or hai, or faai and fai.
Do you pronounce the double letter for a longer time?
Could you please help me?

This doesn't seem right to me. 快 and 鞋 are also faai and haai respectively. For fai and hai, you want something like 肺 and 係.

the second part is incorrect. in cantonese, "haai" is indeed pronounced like "Hi" in english

but "hai" is definitely not pronounced like "hay" in english.

the cantonese sound "hei" is pronounced like "hay" in english.

the cantonese sound "hai" is pronounced like the english word "height" without the "t" sound at the end.

I agree with both of the above.

'height' without the 't' sounds just like 'hi' to me, though. I'm not sure if English has an equivalent of the Cantonese hai.
