Hokkien name

Post by jilang »

Hi

Recently I've seen someone with a last name "khng". I'm assuming that it's Hokkien seeing as it looks like romanization and that person has a Hokkien background. Does anybody know what "khng" might mean? Is it a common name?

Thanks

Wikipedia has a list of common surnames along with their POJ romanizations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... e_surnames

is near the bottom of the list.

Thanks for that, I had no idea there was such a thing on Wikipedia. There's only one Khng but for some reason the person whos name it was insists that his name is not that khng because he says it's a different character. Any ideas as to what it could also be?

Hi Jilang,

If he says it's a different character, can't he say which character it is?

I asked him that too but he doesn't know any Chinese (except for some basic words) and says that "khng" is a very complex looking character and he says he might recognize if he sees it. That's basically the situation.
