Hi Mavericker

I am not Taiwanese, but on tv I heard them called gangsters lo5-mua5 [written as 流氓]. I don't know why the characters are read as lo5-mua5 but that's what I usually heard. May be Duaaagiii or Heruler can help to explain further.

Mavericker, people will often not reply if they are away, or are busy, or if they don't find the thread interesting, or if they don't know the answer or have nothing to add. Don't take it personally, if you still don't get a reply after a few tries, just move on.

Someone told me "xiao4 lian2" in hokkien, means young punk.

I think "siao lian" just means "young" and I don't think it is necessarily referring to a punk.
