Hokkien Movies (and some other questions)
Movie using mainly Hokkien dialogue
Good news for the Hokkiens who are dying to watch movie using mainly Hokkien language. A Singaporean Director Royston Tan has produced a movie called '881' with dialogue mainly in Hokkien which turned out to be a blockbuster in Singapore. It is now showing in the Malaysian cinema circuit by the name of "Papaya Sisters". However, the cinemas indicate Mandarin as the language of the movie probably because using Hokkien will give a negative impact in pulling the crowd eventhough Hokkiens form the majority of the Chinese population in Malaysia.

I think it is high time for the Hokkiens to love its own language and give their utmost support to Hokkien movies and even the very few Taiwanese Hokkien serial dramas being shown over the Malaysian TV Channels.
