China has quite many traditional festivals The most important one is spring festival “春节(chun1 jie2))” which falls on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month. During spring festival, all family members get together like Christmas time in the West. On the Spring Festival Eve, the whole family should have dinner together called “年夜饭(nian2 ye4 fan4)”。Burning fireworks was once the most typical custom after the dinner to drive away evil spirits. During the Spring festival, children will be very excited because they will get red envelops with money called “压岁钱(ya1 sui4 qian2 )” from elders of the family as good wishes for the kids safety in the new year.
Here are some good wishes in Spring Festival:
新年快乐!(xin1 nian2 kuai4 le4) Happy New Year!
恭喜发财!(Gong1 xi3 fa1 cai2) Wish you prosperity!
春节快乐!(Chun1 jie2 kuai4 le4) Happy Spring Festival!
