I have no money to buy all taiwanese song book to check the explanation for above word but I think kuah7 means a group 群 (hanzi unknown yet)
葛 is only use for medicine.
In Prof.chiu's book on singapore song there are two 过番歌 from anxi and nanan. There are a few papers on this song .

I should say 葛 also use for vegetables like 番葛 and cloth 葛衫 as well.

Hi All,

I tried looking for one of the topics I started up a long time ago for "humorous poems, songs, etc", but couldn't find it, so I'll stick this posting here.

I'm visiting my parents in Australia at the moment, and my mother remembered another funny "riddle" from her youth [literal translation in square brackets so that you can work out which Hokkien word is meant].

teng khui hue [top opens flowers]
e kiat ci [bottom bears seeds]
tua lang gin na [adults children]
ai ciah ka si [love to eat like/to death]

Idiomatic translation:

There are flowers at the top
There are seeds at the bottom
Adults and children
Really love to eat it

Official answer in a few days, but I think it's pretty obvious

The answer is "too tau" (peanut), of course.
