Hi
I'd like to get information on Hainanese language learning. There's hardly any on the net on Hainanese. Im a Philippine-Hokkien and interested in some of the other Chinese tongues such as Hainanese. Can anyone show me some info on the Hainanese tones/tonal system, for example?
Thanks
Hainanese
Hi vlag,
Sorry I can't help. You undoubtedly have tried Google. There's very little out there for learning Hainanese, as far as I can tell.
When I googled, it produced the following 4 links which either might be worth following up, or might be of general interest, even if they don't lead anywhere.
1. The Foo Clan Association in Singapore
http://www.fooclan.org/
Perhaps you could mail them and ask if they have more information about learning Hainanese. Most of the site is in Chinese, but there was an interesting article in English (under 文章 Articles) about ancestor worship.
2. A trip to Hainan Island

This is a blog of a Hainanese Australian, who went back for a "roots trip" to Hainan Island. I really enjoyed reading it.
3. Hainanese opera
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/haina ... /255322847
I thought it was quite interesting to watch - the movie image quality is higher than a lot of stuff posted on the net.
4. A worldwide site for Hainanese culture and people
http://www.hainan-world.com/dir/hainandia.html
It says at the start of the site that it is SOON TO DISAPPEAR, but I thought perhaps you might like to follow up some of the links.
Regards,
Sim.

Hey Ong,ong wrote:Can you read chinese?Give me your email if you can.
Thanks. My Chinese reading capabilities were much better when I was younger, living in the Philippines. But since I have left the country in 1999 when I was around 10, and Im now living in Europe, my reading has gone down terribly.. But I can still write chinese like a pro.. but readings another story. I'll give you an email ad in PM, in a moment.
