romanise hokkien name 思敏。。。
Hi, I have been looking through this forum but don't quite get it. I like to find out how to romanize a hokkien's chinese name in english. I know 吴 converts to Goh. How about these characters 思敏, 思铮, 满婷? I could not find a chart or web site that I could reference. Hope someone could help assist me.
The thing about Chinese characters is that the pronunciation isn't tied to the character in a systematic way. So, the only way to know how to pronounce characters (in any dialect: Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, etc) is to learn their pronunciation(s) one by one.baby2904 wrote:Many thanks duaaagiii for your reply. How do you get these information? Is there a web site?
I really like to learn to be able to do this.
I know this isn't quite the solution you're looking for, but the following site may be of some help:
http://www.internationalscientific.org/
It called the "Chinese Etymology" site, and is primarily devoted to giving variant forms of each character, though history. However, it occasionally gives the Cantonese and Hokkien pronunciation of characters.
Characters have to be entered one at a time.
Of the 6 distinct characters you ask about in your posting, 4 of them have been given pronunciations in Hokkien. It appears to give the Hokkien pronunciation in POJ, so ch- and chh-, instead of c- and ch-.

Sim.
