cantonese question

Post by jinseo »

hi i had 3 questions about cantonese..my friends were saying that "loh pet" meant "buttocks" in cantonese. what are the characters that mean "loh pet." also, are "loh sau" and "tau sau" the same? Do they both mean to hold one's hand? (as in a girlfriend/boyfriend situation)?

thanks

Here are some information but not yet widely accepted. Cantonese call buttocks as lo1 jau2 because buttocks look like shaddock/pomelo which in Cantonese called luk1 jau2, sound changes from luk1 to lo1 (always written as 蘿柚). Cantonese called a pile of faeces as jat1/7 pet6/9 si2 一 土犮 屎, where pet6/9 is sometimes used to substitute jau2 and it changed to sound as pet1/7. P.S. many Cantonese would say si2 fat1/7屎窟 to indicate buttocks though it actually indicates the area around anus.

hold one's hand, Cantonese would say to1 sau2 拖手;be in love, Cantonese would say paak3/8 to1拍拖. Both seems not corresponding to your sound?

So, is this what is meant by the curse phrase "si fat loh" ? Does it basically translate to calling someone an "@!#$"? Just curious.

PS While we're at it, what is "haam sup loh" and "ding lei goh fie"? (Sorry I don't mean to be rude or offend anyone. I've heard these curses, but don't really know what they mean.) Thanks

I am not able to express the precise meaning of each word in English, I just give some information here.

Si2 fat1/7 is a quite rude expression, If 'LOH' sounds as lung1, it is not a curse phrase but directly indicates anus (the same as the surface meaning of @!#$). For that curse, Hongkongers would say si2 fat1/7 gwai2 撅
