yet another tomb

Post by elmer »

Hello, once again I invite you to have a look at:

http://home.planet.nl/~lie00120/temp.htm

I could translate myself:

Next to the question marks, I am uncertain of the character 壽 in 2nd and 3rd column. Can anyone help me.

Thanks,
Elmer

hello Eric,

Thank you. Your help is great like always. I have 4 more tombs and then I will be completely out of material. Although most of the tombs contain little more than formal expressions, it is interesting what you can learn out of it.

Once more I have placed a picture on http://home.planet.nl/~lie00120/temp.htm

I can read myself:

In the 2nd line I have trouble translating the characters
Am I correct that the date is the 9th year of the republic china, the 10th month, the 14th day?
Also, I am not entirlely sure about the name of the eldest grandson (子九?)

regards and thanks in advance,
Elmer

You're welcome =)

陽曆 (solar calendar) = the Gregorian calendar, as opposed to the lunar (lunisolar) calendar

So 民國九年陽曆十月十四 is "The 9th year of the Republic (1920), October 14"

子元, the 元 was written with the second and third strokes joined together

once more, thanks again. Two more questions about this stone. What is the final character (the one beneath the names of the grandsons). And how do you think the generation name of the grandsons is pronounced. Would it be Tso or Tse?

regards,
Elmer
