Hi all,
New to the forum. I am going at the end of the holidays to HK to visit my wife's family and I was hoping to spend afew days going to Fujian to visit my ancestral village, if it still exists.
I'm 9th generation Chinese from Indonesia. My dad is from a group of Chinese in an area called Tangerang usually called "Cina Benteng" (literally Chinese Castle). I think we used to live in fortified places or something like that. Anyway, he's told me that our ancestral village is called Long Xi (龍溪), Fujian.
I met a person from Xiamen and he told me that Long Xi is now called Zhangzhou Ping He, which is why I can't find Long Xi on the map. So now here are my questions if anyone can help.
1) Is Long Xi called Zhangzhou Ping He now?
2) What is the best way to get there? I will be tarvelling from HK.
3) I found a book titled "Chinese Names" and in the appendix it has a list of the major surnames of the villages in south China. My surname is Lin but Lin is not listed as the major surname of Long Xi. So does this probably mean that my family was is not originally of Long Xi?
Thanks all for any help.
regards,
Shawn
Help on researching my roots
Re: Help on researching my roots
Just in case U're still looking to make the trip and haven't done so already... AFAIK, the County of Liongkhoe 龍溪 was combined with Haiteng County next door to form the City of Lionghai 龍海.
According to Google Maps, there's a Village of Liongkhoe 龍溪村 in 平和 County, but that's probably just a coincidence.
U can reach Lionghai from HK by bus. The easiest route off the top of my head would be to take the train into Chimcun 深圳, crossing at the 羅湖 Lo Wu border controls. There are little shops in the plaza on the PRC side where U can buy a bus tkt to Amoy and prob. Ciangciu. Lionghai locals would ask to be dropped off at the highway exit closest to their destination, but U might be better off getting off at a bus terminal and arranging transport from there.
Another way is to fly into Amoy, either from HK or Chimcun (cheaper), then bus to your ancestral hometown. There are fast boats from Amoy to Lionghai too but they dock on the Haiteng side of Lionghai.

Hi amhoanna,
Thanks for the reply. I haven't made the trip yet as I still don't know which is my ancestral village. I was hoping to get a copy of family's jiapu but my father's family are very westernised and apparently have already lost it. Very sad.
