What character is this?

Post by elmer »

Hello,

My grandfather - born in Mojokerto, east Java 1907 - had three sisters. They were named in chronological order:

Lie Tiam Nio
Lie Giok Tjiam Nio
Lie Giok Hwan Nio

In some old family papers I found the characters for Lie Giok Hwan Nio. You can find it on http://home.planet.nl/~lie00120/temp.htm. Does anybody know what the character for Hwan is? I looked for it on the internet, but so far no success.

And then, does anybody have an idea how Tiam and Tjiam could have been written? Is this a common sequence of feminin names like for example Gwat Yong and Gwat Hwa?

kind regards,
Elmer Lie

Hi, Elmer,

I am not sure what you question means, as the image in the URL you provided already has the character huan in there, i.e. . If you are enquiring about the meaning of the character, then its original meaning is a jade ring or bracelet, and its extended meaning is surrounding or linking.

Thank you, now I can copy the character Huan and implement it in a report on my ancestral history. Do you have any idea how the names Thiam and Tjiam could have been written? regards, Elmer
