Today I was just walking down the street and overheard some kids chit-chatting. It reminded me of the grade school days when we always recited these smart-alec rhymes... I've largely forgotten most of them, it'd be great if someone could post some of their favorites.

Do you know anyone who is talented in creating rhymes in either (actually both) Cantonese & Mandarin (& perhaps Japanese as well) who might be interested in putting poetic words to dance club music?
The album project I'm working on right now is intended to add a new dimension of dance energy to Canto-pop & Mando-pop &/or J-pop then what is heard already. (I have no problem pronouncing words in those languages).
Hopefully, the music will be released in English, Mandarin, Cantonese (& maybe Japanese) all at the same time which could be completed as early by the end of next year depending on my free time. The dance music is already composed. I've composed ballads too, but I'm not sure, at this time, if I want to add lyrics to them because most people say they don't need lyrics.

i know a lot of people who are talented in putting rhymes together BUT
it seems to me that you're basically looking for a songwriter...
i'm pretty sure that a lot of people on this forum are qualified to help you out with your project. It seems like an educational venture. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for responding. Actually, I "am" the song writer, therefore, I'm not looking for another song writer. The music grove is already fully orchestrated and pre-programed on my keyboard which means I'm already ready to go live & solo in a snap. It's the lyrics that needs tweeking but I can handle that in English by myself.
I'm looking for lyricists whose gift with rhymes (in HongKong Cantonese, DongBei Mandarin, &/or Japanese) have either double meanings, a non-political but social message, or just artful expressions like tongue twisters.
My Cantonese is not of the urban Hong Kong variety, therefore, I not familiar with the current HK slangs and buzz words to incorporate into the music.
Once the lyrics are written, I shouldn't have any problems adjusting my speech to mimic the urban dialects of HongKongese, BeiJingese, or Japanese.
The music alone can already sell itself without lyrics. However, with lyrics, I could repackage the music over the internet (I'm studying DreamWeaver this semester) to accomodate other international markets.
This project is just for fun for me, so I'm not in any hurry to complete it though most if it is near finalization. I still need to brush up on Copyright, music, entertainment, & distribution laws and I haven't even started to read the manual on my Roland digital recording studio which has been sitting on my desktop studio for an embarassing 2 years now. Shame on me, but then, the reality of working full time in a job I enjoy takes priority as it does now, in addition, Napster wasn't dead yet so I wasn't very motivated back then.

yeah you're right, i meant songwriter in the sense of a lyricist. =P
umm, why don't you give me a suggested or preferred theme for your songs and i can pass it on to some of my friends to see if they are interested, it'd be great since we're both in the san francisco area.

Interesting topic! My wife is Hong Kong Chinese. I asked her about those songs or rhymes she sang when she was little. At first, she couldn't think of anything, but I showed her yours, which gradually retrieved some songs from her memory. I must say some songs/rhymes are not what girls usually recite in other countries, but I guess this is another aspect of Hong Kong Chinese women...
