Hello.
My wife is Vietnamese and her name is Thy. Does anybody have any idea what the Chinese character for this name is? Her Vietnamese is very poor so she couldn't even give me any details on what it means or what context it is used in. Also her last name is Nguyen so that I assume it is written as 阮 - Is this right? Thanks for all your help!

Without meaning, that makes it difficult
to guess. Could it be thi 詩?
Note: There's also thi. , which is often
used as a filler for Vietnamese middle
names to identify the name as female. But
I don't think that's what her "Thy" is.

Yes, it probably is Nguye^~n 阮, which was
the name of Nguye^~n Ta^y So+n 阮西山
(1788-1802) and Nguye^~n 阮 (1802-1945).
However, Nguye^n 元, Nguye^n 原, and
Nguye^n 源 are also possible.
