chut lai4

Post by rathpy »

When a toddler wants to be let out of his high-chair, he says "chut(1?) lai4" -- [?] 嚟. What is the proper pronunciation / character for this 'chut'. Is it dialectal?

I don't think it's dialectal, but probably the kid is saying let me out of here, but don't verbalise it so well, and ends ups saying "out of here"

Chut in this case would be "to go out" 出.

Thank you Dylan,

I guess the child is repeating what the mother says from her perspective - coming (lai4) out (cheut1).
