If someone could help me, I'd appreciate it. My Cantonese friend speaks the most eloquent Cantonese but used a couple of new words on me.
One is "FOOI SUM" = Both in the first, or highest tone meaning "Grey hearted. I think it means "upset" or "worrysome". Is it correct?
Another is when she was talking about a concert, she said "GA BUN" - both also in high or first tone - Ga as in add, Bun as in...I dont know! I think it refers to a support act for the main singer
"dui jeung" - dui as in "to face" jeung as in I dont know! Dui is 3rd tone, jeung I think is 6th, or low. is that right? I think it means partner or opponent.
If anyone could help Id be so happy!

Re: two new mystery words.
i'd like to add something in the last post.
the character for zoeng6 is originally a pictograph of an elephant and is still used for that purpose. in the wordgroup deoi3 zoeng6 however, it carries the meaning 'image' so 'face(deoi3) image(zoeng6) would make sense as a target or a partner(boyfriend/girlfriend). I kind of made it ambiguous in the last post.
i wonder... if your cantonese friend used some new words on you, why don't you just directly ask him/her rather than wait for a response on this forum? Oh well, not that it matters.
hope this helps

My friend cannot speak English, my native tongue. Definetly not fluent enough to answer these questions! If she did, of course I will ask her!
looking back at the context when she used the words, I say your answers are definetly right..
Thanks again : )
