Does anyone know how I can communicate with Eugene Morrow? I need some advice on learning Cantonese. What's ur e-mail address, the one "EMorrow@Au1.IBM.com doesn't seem to work. If you use AOL Instant Messenger, what is ur screen name? Thank you for your time.
I'm back !
Joyce,
I have been on two months holiday, and so my work e-mail (IBM) had a message to say that.
Definitely EMorrow@Au1.IBM.Com is working - note that AU1 is AU and then a figure one (it simply means the Australian part of IBM). The next bit (IBM) is the famous three letters of the alphabet. The spelling of this might have been a hassle for you.
I have taken a brief holiday from my FSI Cantonese course. I will return to it in March and really work hard. I have found that although I know about 500 words I do not have fluency. So I must practice heaps more to get that.
I have already finished the Pimsleur course - it is lightweight and really only a quick beginner's guide.
Let me know what your question is. Please excuse the long absence from this forum.

Hey Eugene, Finally! I'm glad ur back, my questions are...
Eugene,
Hey, how's it going Eugene? I'm so glad your back, I've been trying to contact you for a long time. Anyways, I'm Vietnamese and Chinese but I don't know much Cantonese, only a few words here and there. I can also pretty much recognize the language. But I really badly wanna be able to speak and understand Cantonese fluently, so that I can surprise my mom when I visit her back in H.K.,. I heard you have used the FSI Cantonse course? I want to know how helpful is it? How many words does it actually teaches you? And do you know any other good Intermediate courses? Any recommendations? You mentioned you know about 500 words, is that so? Thats pretty good, but I wanna ask you how much tape courses that you have to take in order to be fluent at it? I wanna know do you understand the Cantonese movies, dramas, music etc.? Cause I wanna be able to understand everything, and how many tapes courses do you think I need to purchase? In order to be fluent, I don't care too much about being able to speak it fluently, what I'm concern about is being able to understand at least 90% of the language. So, how many tapes courses you think I should buy? Because I don't wanna rely on anyone to teach me, and I want to learn on my very own. By the way I have the Pimsleur course which I'm done with also. So next will be the FSI Course, but after I'm done with that as well? What else should I do? I don't think there's any other course beyond that level. Oh yeah, and I'm also watching the TVB H.K. drama series, I hope I can get something out of it as well. My goal is to understand Cantonese really fluent. Well, Eugene, if you have any advices for me, post them up. Anyways, thank you so much for your time. Oh, and one more thing, how about the Colliqual Cantonese course? Is that good as well? Ok, I guess I'll be hearing from you soon, laters.. and take cares =)
