help with One Translation

Post by jay »

Hi HI.

I wanted to ask all out there how do you say "so" in Cantonese like..."Hurry up cleaning [so] that you can watch television." and in the case of "He did not appear, [so] we went without him." What are the two instances? help!! (It would be nice if you could give the chinese characters and pingyum also) =)

Thank you!!!

gam2 means like this situation, under such circumstances
in present expression, it is replaced by written as 這樣子, 這漾的話,那麼 or 所以。
gam2 is an old expression left and only used by Cantonese, but it had once been very popular in both written and spoken Chinese. It appeared in many classic novels.

The character is 恁 sounds as gam2, but the jyutpin in dictionary is marked as jam5, so this word has been veiled for quite a long time.
