"Spam" e Hok-kian-wa an-choaN kong?

I notice the spam has been cleared out recently, thank goodness, but I wonder if we can come up with a nice Hokkien way to call spam? JOhn Ong has already coined some nice internet terms:

Chiau-chiau 鳥鳥 = Twitter
Bin-chheh 面冊 = Facebook
Lu-kang 你江 = Youstream

How about Lap-chhiong-bah 臘腸肉 (sausage meat)? I don't know whether there is a real name for the food "spam", or whether Penangites were lucky enough never to have tasted the stuff. "Mystery meat" ....sin-pi-bah 神秘肉 was another name for it.

Oh, that is the most wonderful news I've heard for months!

In a flurry of enthusiasm, I've gone through the last page of every single thread listed on the first contents page of this forum and tried to spot the spam postings and reported them all.

"kanoo", "ekkuna", "jaana", "paani", "kunjaan", "kaipi", "kinara", "yamini", "anjana", "shappil", "modaan" were among the nicks which this "standard spammer" used. I hope and pray that the mods will also remove these postings.

Haha! Did the second of the contents pages too, with "vaazi", "arros123", "krishtom", and "jokeychan".

Hope they can ban the (range of) addresses from which the spammer posts as well, which will be an even better long term solution.

We used to have fried luncheon meat with eggs for breakfast. Or luncheon meat with fried rice. It was delicious. Image

I'm not sure how to pronounce 午餐肉: ngó'-chhan-bah / gó'-chhan-bah, or perhaps it should be 日晝肉 jít-tāu-bah. De Gijzel has 中頓 tiong-tùiⁿ for lunch, but I have never encountered this word before.

Hi Andrew,

Oh!!! Luncheon meat with fried eggs for breakfast was an occasional treat in my youth in Malaysia too! We always had baked beans with it as well, and we put liberal quantities of Worcestershire sauce on the eggs.

My mother had the luncheon meat fried until it was slightly crisp on the outside, but still soft on the inside (one has to cut it into quite thick slices for this). Thanks for bringing back this completely forgotten memory - I'll mention it to my mum the next time I speak to her on the phone.

If Ah-bin is unfamiliar with the product, I would like to add that it's very similar to spam (but he probably worked that out from the photo and context).
