Can you use it for things?

福建話有家己个字 "Hok-kian ue u ka-ki e ji" sounds normal in my variant.
家己 in this kind of context can mean "its own" & "itself".

Caution: "wa", traditionally pronounced "ua" (in most varieties of Hokkien) is only 'mispronounced' "wa2" (in Penang Hokkien) for 我 (supposedly - and perhaps correctly - explained as being because that pronunciation is borrowed from Teochew). In all other cases, it remains "ua", as it does here, for 話 "ua7".Hok-kian-wa u ka-ki e ji. 福建話有家己个字

From my experience with Penang Hokkien speakers, most of them pronounce 話 as ua7. I suspect those who pronounce 話 as wa7 are the Penangites of Cantonese descent.

I was previously unaware that "wa" was used for 話 by any Penang Hokkien speakers. Thanks for this additional information.
I have to admit that I sometimes make a pronouncement on some aspect of Hokkien thinking that it's accurate, and then find out later that my experience and knowledge has some gaps!

Oops... I have a feeling I mis-read your entry - you were referring to wa as the Penang Hokkien pronunciation of 我 and not 話 as I assumed, right?
If so, then yes, I have also read that the pronunciation of 我 in Penang Hokkien is wa and not gua in other Hokkien variants is a vestige from Teochiu.

As you correctly inferred, the issue I was talking about was the famous "gua" -> "wa" for 我 in Penang Hokkien, supposedly from Teochew. For some reason, I didn't realise that Ah-bin's "wa" for 話 was not the same issue at all, but just a slightly different way of writing "ua". Sorry, consider my initial posting on this subject to be a nonsequitur, and just ignore!
