Creating Hokkien-specific characters in word

I've remembered how I made characters for "mai" (don't want) and "be" (can't) in word documents.

1) Write the two characters you want to combine in one 勿會
2) Highlight them
3) Find "character spacing" (in word 2007 it's under the font options) and change it from 100% to 50%. The two characters you highlighted should now take up just one space. I can't demonstrate it here because they return to normal size when pasted. When you print them they come out fine.

This only works with characters you want to combine horizontally. I'm still mucking around with how to do them vertically.... with partial success!

For one on top of the other you need to type the characters in 相同 (for "siang" - like, same as)

2)Then highlight them.
3) Select Asian Layout "combine two lines in one" this will put the two characters one on top of the other, but they are still too thin so...
4) choose "character scaling" from the Asian layout menu and expand it to 200% this will stretch the characters out so they fit into a square like the characters around them. Unfortunately, they do still have a bit too much space between them. I'll muck around some more and see what I can do.
