Oh, thank you for this link. The pdf version is searchable too, just like the Douglas!!! (I just checked, and it searches ignoring diacritics, so one can search the Hokkien words written in POJ too, amazingly).

This is truly a tremendous find!

Wow, it has both POJ and TLJ ("tng lang ji"), although some TLJ are just borrowed for meaning. It also marks colloquial reading with a circle beside the character. It even has Hokkien name for Alps i.e. 小崑崙 siau2-khun1-lun5. I can even use this to learn English, so many words that I have never known e.g. accoucheuse, addle, amerce, etc etc! I spotted one or two typos for TLJ, but overall this dictionary is amazing indeed!

As a native speaker of English who prides himself at speaking it well and and at having a good vocabulary... I didn't know "accoucheuse" and "amerce" either! Never even heard of them, in fact (as opposed to having heard of them but not knowing or not being sure of their meaning...)

English indeed has the largest vocabulary (and keep expanding!), having so many synonyms.

The dictionary seems to be intended for medical staff, as obvious in the sample of conversations at the back. No wonder it has many "exotic" terms. In 1980s my father once brought me to meet an "angmoh" 'pa2-sy7-to7' (cf. pastor, Roman Catholic priest) in Bagansiapiapi. I can only remember it vaguely, but I was told that he could speak Hokkien fluently. And he was a medical doctor too. In fact many, if not most, of missionaries were also medical staff, thus the characteristic of the dictionary.

It has great entries, including for classifiers under item "Numerals". It even has contracted form (碼子 'be2-ci2') used in daily trade, beside common form and capital form (used in cheques et al.). Also it explains the differences between formal numerals derived from French notation and daily usage. Thanks to it, now I know that usage of 'tiau3' 兆 for million is not only limited to Hokkiens in Indonesia but also a practice in 19th century E-mng (Amoy)!
