閘 (tsah) - Definition translation

Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can help with an English translation of the definition of the character 閘 (tsah)

詞目 閘　　　　部首：門 169-05-13
音讀 tsah　
釋義 1.截、遮斷。例：閘水　tsah tsuí(切斷水源)。
2.攔阻、擋住。例：閘佇半路拍人。Tsah tī puànn-lōo phah--lâng. (堵在半路上打人。)；頭前的人閘咧，啥物都看袂著。Thâu-tsîng ê lâng tsah--leh, siánn-mih to khuànn bē tioh. (前面的人擋住，什麼都看不到。)
3.遮欄牆、遮物。例：水閘　tsuí-tsah(水門)、雨閘　hōo-tsah(遮雨棚)。

I don't read hanzi, but I have been able to work out definition 1 refers to a 'water/sluice gate' using online translation tools. I'm more interested in the second definition, does this describe to block a strike from a person i.e. to parry?

The 2nd definition contains two meanings:
1.to prevent someone from moving
e.g:
Tsah tī puànn-lōo phah--lâng.
get in the way of people and punch him/her/them (the subject is omitted)
2.to prevent you from seeing something by standing between you and it
e.g:
Thâu-tsîng ê lâng tsah--leh, siánn-mih to khuànn bē tioh.
The people in front of me get in my way. I can't see anything.

It deals with About the culture of ancient chinese people.
