Urgent: Help in translating name to Hokkien

Hi All,

Im so glad i found this forum, help from the singapore hokkien huay kuan was not forth coming..

The singapore ann kway association did offer alot of help though, but non are 100% sure whether they are pronouncing it correctly.

Would appreciate your help to help me translate my daughter's name to hokkien.

her name is 芸熙
i know 芸 is hoon

what about 熙? is it pronouced as say ?

Wah, your daughter's name sounds like Korean lor.

芸 is actually Un or Oon, but Hoon works too - you're the parent, you can choose
熙 is Hee or Hi

I think it is great that people are taking the trouble to record their children's names in Hokkien. Even in my generation a lot of people just used Mandarin.

Thank you all very much, yup, even the birth registration person says it sounds like a korean name, haha.

The trend nowadays is to use the dialect surname and the hanyu pinyin name,
but imho, i think it causes alot of confusion and not 'proper'
So i insisted on registering the dialect name in the official documents.
I want her to grow up knowing how her name is pronounced and being able to converse fluently in hokkien.

Hock kien lang tio ai kong hock kien way :)
