College courses are such a great way to learn Chinese. They give you the immersion and the step-by-step instructions needed to successfully learn and retain the language. While I was taking Chinese, I also tried to supplement my lessons with more. I read books in Chinese, listened to the radio in Chinese, watched Chinese news, and used www.clavisinica.com. The radio and Chinese Voices Project from Clavis Sinica really helped my ability with speaking Chinese because it made me hear how native Chinese speakers actually talked.

I wish I would have learned more foreign languages when I was young. I learned a little Spanish and German but can't speak either well. One of my friends took Chinese in college and he said it was really difficult.
