Hi xng,

As I understand it, CNY is quite big in Amsterdam Chinatown. They have a dragon or lion dance, with lots of firecrackers hanging from poles. The streets around Chinatown are completely covered in exploded shreds of red paper each year. I only enjoyed firecrackers when I was young and find them an unpleasant racket nowadays, so I avoid CNY in Amsterdam Chinatown, and have never actually seen it in person. I'm quite happy it exists, for the sake of "preservation of Chinese culture" (whatever that means), I just don't want to be around when it happens .

It must be relatively boring when compared to Malaysia where everywhere is red in color, from lion dance to red underwear.

By the way, do you go back to Malaysia or Singapore at all ?

No, hardly ever. I haven't lived in Malaysia for about 40 years, and, aside from my attachment to Hokkien, there isn't that much there for me nowadays.
