五雷火蛇 - five thunder fire snake

Post by Andre4000 »

Hi everybody, this is my first post here but I'm hopeful that somebody can help me.

I've been studying and teaching traditional Chinese Kung Fu for the past 12 years or so... Recently I've been working on translating some old cultural artifacts, to better understand the history and culture behind my Sifu.

My Si Gung (sifu's sifu) passed down some interesting stamps (wood blocks with a carved stamp-surface) that sit on my sifu's altar today. These are not the stamps used on watercolor paintings. They range from square 3"x3" to octoganal 6"x6"

Several of the stamps contain the following phrase, and though I've successfully found all of the characters, the meaning is obscure. I'm hoping somebody can provide more information.

五雷火蛇

五 ng5 five
雷 leui4 thunder
火 fo2 fire
蛇 se4 snake

So, what is a five thunder fire snake?!

Thanks in advance

I am thinking that it is a kung fu move, of which is hard to decipher considering the ambiguity of the term. Besides, there would be no way anyone outside of your Sect would know the meaning and the style of the move too.

Perhaps that is why no one replied to your question. ^^

What type of Kung Fu are you teaching? Does it have anything with Tao? Wu Lei Huo, which are the first 3 characters is actually a tao kung fu practice, working fire in your body. Let me know and I can then explain further.
