Movies (dubbed) in Hokkien

唐伯虎點秋香 (閩南語) Flirting Scholar (Hokkien) Part 1

Once you go to that webpage, other parts will be displayed at "Suggestions" on the right column. I found the dubbing matching the movie i.e. funny!

Hi niuc,

Thanks for posting this. It's not really suitable for me because 1) my Hokkien is simply not good enough to follow even the rough plot, 2) I have reservations about dubbing, especially when the lips move so differently from the sound .

Nevertheless, I'm always happy to know that there is more stuff out there in Hokkien. If only 1% of the stuff out there appeals to me, then the more there is (however much it might not appeal to me), the greater the chance that there will be stuff which will appeal to me.

I did watch the first clip all the way to the end though. I knew calligraphy was difficult, but I didn't realise it was THAT difficult !

PS. I think you know me well enough to realise that the general drift of this reply is NOT "nah, no use, this clip", but just "not really my cup of tea". The same thing goes for people posting links to sites written entirely in Chinese. They're not much use to me - because my Chinese is so limited, but even if I say so, it's not that I don't appreciate people posting the information, and I realise that it might be interesting, appealing, or useful to lots of other readers of the Forum.

Thanks so much Niuc, it's in Taiwanese Hokkien, isn't it?

Now I see I have actually watched this all before (in Cantonese)! I wish they would do some of the old vampire ones in Hokkien too.

I really have a soft spot for these old HK films. They are so much more creative and funny than things that come out of the big neighbour to the north.

Sim, Ah-bin, sorry for this late response due to my workload. Also the recent faster pace of this forum (which is a good thing! ) left this thread "buried". Thanks to Azad for "surfacing" this thread again.

Sim, yes, I also don't understand the dubbing 100%. I think it is too fast, but may be it should be that way to match the original Cantonese.

Yes, Ah-bin, it's Taiwanese Hokkien. Btw I noticed that the poems were dubbed to Mandarin instead of literary Hokkien, which is a pity. But still great to have, nonetheless. I also wish they dub more movies into Hokkien.

Usually I don't like TW telenovellas, too long-winded. However, I like 浪淘沙 though I didn't manage to watch much of it. It's not long-winded, and IMHO has good quality. I wish more TW Hokkien serials are like that. Its story is about a Taiwanese female doctor (played by 葉歡, very beautiful & elegant lady! And I like the way she speaks Hokkien! 8) ) during Japanese Occupation. The last time I checked, only its theme song (very touching) found in youtube. Aokh ever posted the youtube song video at his FB and I copied ("share") it to mine. If not mistaken, he wrote something about 浪淘沙 broadcasted in Msia cable tv. If you and Sim (and others) have the chance, I recommend you to watch.

浪淘沙 at Astro 歡喜台:

浪淘沙个片頭曲︰浪淘人生

Same here; I also love those HK funny movies. But I don't remember watching any movie from HK's "big neighbour to the north".
