Mandarin or Cantonese?

Post by David »

I am currently investigating the possible translation of a technical (engineering) book for the Chinese market and would be interested to find out whether users of this forum (especially those from China) believe it would be better to produce the book in Cantonese or Mandarin.

I'm not sure how much you know about the Chinese language but the written form for *ALL* Chinese dialects are the same.

Instead, you should think about whether to publish the book in Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese. Traditional Chinese is used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and most Chinese communities around the world. Simplified Chinese is used in mainland China, Singapore and some Chinese communities who came from China in the past 10 - 20 years.
