meaning of "xi shou" - enroll/enlist

Does the meaning of "xi shou" refer to enrolling/enlisting in a class? If so, would it be written as "Tong xi shou"? If not, how would you say to "enroll in a class/take a course(class)"?

xi shou means to absorb, or to enroll.
"Enroll in a class" should be zhu ce (register).
