prononciation - szi1 vs. ji1

I noticed that there is some difference is cantonese pronouciation of words especially like know (ji1 do3). Some pronouce it with a very strong "j" sound, others with a more "szi1" s type of sound. Is it a regional difference or mandarin influence?

In standard Cantonese,you just need to say "ji1 do3", and there is no
such pronuciation as "zh" and "sh" in Cantonese.
