where is 福建省龍溪縣石幫李村 ?

Post by elmer »

Hello,

I have found new information on the village of origin of the family Lie. It is supposed to be 福建省龍溪縣石幫李村: Fujian province, Longxi county, Shibang.

One problem: I can not find it on maps I have of the current County Longhai. Who can help me? Thanks!

福建省 龙溪县
石帮
李村

Fújiàn shěng, Lóngxī xiàn
Shí bāng
Li cūn

My analysis: In Fujian province is okay.
Since Tang Dynasty Long Xi was the greater part of Subprovince QuanZhou ( north of Xiamen) and
Subprovince ZhangZhou ( West of Xiamen ).
So later this large area named Long Xi was divided in the "Zhangzhou" -LongXi, and the
other northern near FuZhou, let us name it "Quanzhou" - LongXi.
Up till now these 2 Long Xi's still exist.

Pre-assuming that your village is in the south, so we can take the Long Xi, that merged into the new
name: Long Hai ( merger of Long Xi and Hai Cheng ).
The name xian means village- or small town- or even prefecture.

Shi Bang, I cannot find this name. Maybe someone else can help?
I know Shi Ma, as I drove there with 2 motors while searching for my original
village 8 years ago. ( it is part of the city LongHai ).

Li cun meaning the small ( very small village) of the family Li,
as your name is same as mine it must refer to " Li", in chinese
spelling " Mu Zi Li " { 李 }.

Short notice:
In chinese denomination and administrative departmentalization of the real great provinces,
many confusing translations appear:
example: ZhangZhou city can mean the city itself with all the local streets and houses.
another meaning for ZhangZhou city can be: the whole area belonging to the city( under administrative
jurisdiction of ZhangZhou, so it could be larger than the country of the Netherlands. Ha ha ha, quite confusing for us here in the west. Hopefully in the near future other translations will appear in the chinese carthographical detail- denominations.
I hope that others can help U soon to find your ancestral village. :P
