I'm glad to see that Taylor's work has now been published as a book.

I met the author at an EATS (European Association of Taiwan Studies) Conference about 4-5 years ago. At the time, he told me that that was his topic of research. He's Australian, in fact, living in England at the time, IIRC (but perhaps only for the period of a research grant or something - I don't know for sure).
