A real challenge...

Post by yuminnan »

I hope someone can help me to find the right names for some Hokkian names. Their romanization is in Dutch.
From some of the names I have characters, so I hope this will make it more easy to know what the characters of the others could have been:

余 family
5. Oldest generation, around 1850 Oe Tjoe Tin, possibly Oe Tjoe Kay
4. Next generation around 1880 Oe Eng An, Oe Eng Lo
3. Next generation Around 1900 Oe Oen Djiang (余允讓 ), Oe Oen Seng, Oe Oen Ho
2. Next generation Around 1930 Oe Po Liem (余寶粦 ), Oe Po Ham, Oe Po Giok (余寶玉)

曾 family
Around 1850 Tjan Lian Tjioe
Around 1880 Tjan Djie Siong ( probably曾如松) Tjan Djie Peek ( for sure 曾如柏)

Most important to know is:

Oe Eng An
Oe Tjoe Tin
Oe Po Ham
Tjan Lian Tjioe

It would be great if somebody could help me to find the correct characters!

Just to be sure I added the names with characters as an image.

I repost the image. Maybe it is better shown with a direct URL?

Hi Yuminnan, thanks for posting the image again, so actualy it is the same as what you have typed.

What I list below are just possible characters. It's very hard to know the exact ones since Hokkien also has a lot of homophones. Moreover, the spelling doesn't indicate the tones.

Oe Eng An -> may be 余永安 or 余榮安.

Oe Tjoe Tin -> sorry, is this a man or woman's name?
For man, Tin may be 鎮.
For woman, Tjoe Tin may be 珠珍.

Oe Po Ham -> Po may be 寶 or 保; Ham may be 涵 or 銜.

Tjan Lian Tjioe -> sorry, is this a man or woman's name?
For man, Lian may be 聯, Tjioe may be 州.
For women, Lian may be 蓮.
