"Deng Goa" does sound like "Tang5 Ua*1" (Hokkien) but from what I know, people in Dabo Singkep are either Teochew or Hakka. Zenboy, how about you?

i am from indonesia,national cencus 1930 told us that chinese population in our country 1,250,000 and 2,509,000 at 1961,hokkiens form the majority in java,madura,bali,sumatera,celebes and east indonesia islands,the details all indonesia hokkiens 53%,kheh 21%,cantonese 10%,teocew9%,others7% .the teocew and hokkien languages very close,we can find teocew majority in riau islands,north sumatera,jambi,west kalimantan,may this data useful for us,....da jia dou shi hua ren.............

niuc, li ho bo? i got the statistics from the national central statistic bureau in jakarta, now if u come to jkt and all cities in java ,u can hear nativepeople or the chinese etnics talking money or any other words in hokkien and a little bit teocew just like cet cheng(Rp.1,000) go cheng(Rp.5,000)go ban(Rp.50,000) ket kee(getting angry) cheng lee(the truth) jia be leau(cannot finish eating) even the chinese lunar calender in hokkien, like; peh gwee cap go (15th of 8th month), niuc if u like statistic pls come to ind,we welcome u...
