Online dictionaries/wordlists

Post by Andrew Yong »

The Taiwanese dictionary at

http://daiwanway.dynip.com/cgi/tdict.acgi

seems no longer to be working.

Which has prompted me to look at other online sources:

http://myweb.hinet.net/home9/edutech/ynlin/Dict0.htm

has a quite thorough but incomplete English-Hokkien dictionary. However, the transcriptions are in TMSS, which is difficult to read at first, but can actually be worth the effort.

http://tacpa.org/wdcts/mtl/jixtiern/

is a Hokkien-English and Hokkien-Hanji dictionary, also in TMSS.

http://163.13.200.222/~seke/cgi-bin/mtwromaji.html

is an English/Hanji-Hokkien dictionary in Missionary Romanisation, but the search facility is currently broken, so you can only look at some of the wordlists, which are organised into verb, noun and adjective.

http://www.chinalanguage.com/CCDICT/index.html

is a searchable English/Mandarin-Hokkien character dictionary. It does not do phrases.

Dear Hong,

Where did you hear about this project and where is their web site so we can find out more information about it?

Anyway I hope the dict above won't require us to type in anything for the words.Just with the minnan alphabet index will do.There is a online dict claiming they are using William Campbell but I find it is a waste of time to type in the words.Since the book is just 700 taiwan currency, why not just buy it from taiwanese church press.
Also putonghuaminnan dict from HongKong is cheap.A few other dict from Taiwan about 1000 pages are not too costly .However dict by Wushouli,Xuchengchang and chenxiu are too costly.
