We know that there are 2 main group of Min - Min Nan and Min Bei.
Obviously Hok Chiu belongs to Min Bei.
What about the lesser known hokkien dialect like tau pak and hing hua.
Hing Hua belongs to Pu Sien subgroup but does Pu Sien belongs to Min Bei or Min Nan ?
Hok Chiu, Tau Pak, Hing Hua
Re: Hok Chiu, Tau Pak, Hing Hua

I hope other new guys will do so.Are you so busy to spend an hour to read?

Re: Hok Chiu, Tau Pak, Hing Hua
Never mind, I found the answer in the internet.
Putian (subgroup pu xian) belongs to MIN BEI.
That is why they sound quite different from MIN NAN than the other min nan dialect like teo chiu etc.

Re: Hok Chiu, Tau Pak, Hing Hua
The internet info you found is wrong .That is a century old theory. It was started by a few china's scholars who said that minbei means fuzhou and jiano in 1920s .But this theory are wrong becasue there are qing dynasty yunshu for fuzhou and Jian o to prove there are indeed two different languages. .Minbei is the earliest in min languages but they didn't retain much like those 4 ru sheng in minnan
Putian is a mixed of fuzhou and quanzhou languge. That is why we have phd student from Taiwan writing a thesis named=study of fuzhou ,minnan and putian.I had given the password to download it in the topic-penang hokkien.
Also we have china's phd student from xiamen university writing thesis on xianyou(diferrent a little bit from putian) ,xiamen .fuzhou .

Re: Hok Chiu, Tau Pak, Hing Hua
Hong,
I do not want to read a whole book to obtain a simple answer !
It would be kind of you if you can tell me and a lot of others here which group "Putian" and "tau pak" belongs to.
But if you do not want to answer, don't go and scold people, it is very barbaric and tells me you have a bad temper. Just ignore and let other nice people answer !
By group, I mean which MAIN group and NOT SUBGROUP.
I know there are 5 subgroups but I think it is too detailed. I would like to know which main group it is closest to - Min Nan or Min Bei.

Re: Hok Chiu, Tau Pak, Hing Hua
alex,
You are lazy to read and you still asking people not to scold you.Do you think people in his forum can spend a lot time to read about min languages.we are busy and money is a big,big problem for us to buy those books.Every answer is in above online book without having to get into trouble of order it from china. But you still refuse to read, that is your lost.It is very strange for me to understand.we can just read it a few pages a day .
That phd student from taiwan spent three years to study these putian languages but no definite answer can be made.I have privately asked another article from her .We can say it is 60 percent fuzhou and 40 percent quanzhou.
There is no shortcut for anyone to have good knowledge about min language.we just have to sit down and study even for min people in china.
